ECPAT International is a global network dedicated to eliminating the commercial sexual exploitation of children or CSEC. There are over 80 groups in more than 75 countries in the ECPAT network. The International Secretariat is based in Bangkok, Thailand.

ECPAT’s original name End Child Prostitution in Asian Tourism was changed in 1996 to End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking in Children for sexual purposes, reflecting the organisation’s geographic expansion and broader mandate

The Strategic Directions 2012-2015

Every three years in conjunction with the convening of the ECPAT International Assembly, the ECPAT network undertakes a systematic review of its goals and sets Strategic Directions for the coming period. Our strategic planning process identifies and reaffirms the specific goals and approaches required to achieve ECPAT’s vision and mission in light of the changing environment and requisite responses to fight the commercial sexual exploitation of children globally.

The Strategic Directions for 2012-2015 as approved by the International Assembly are:

• Improve research, knowledge, tools and innovative models to better fight CSEC
• Build and enhance strategic collaborations for effective action against CSEC with external partners
• Empower boys and girls to participate meaningfully in programmes and policies that impact their lives
• Strengthen public information and awareness-raising to support behaviour change
• Support human rights mechanisms and incorporation of States’ commitments in legal frameworks; Support and monitor their effective implementation
• Strengthen EI as the leading network against CSEC

ECPAT International has been protecting and advocating for children and their rights to live free of sexual exploitation for more than twenty years. We are a strong global network, governed by The ECPAT International Board of Trustees, and managed by dedicated child rights professionals. It is unfortunate that as we do our important work, and do it well and visibly, that there are individuals who seek to bring us down.  Recently, we noticed a posting on the Internet, accusing ECPAT International of fraudulent activities. It is not the first time we have been targeted.  Pedophiles, other abusers of children, and criminal elements have set their sights on ECPAT.  We also know an employee we recently terminated for serious cause, has been sending out e-mails with unfounded allegations.  Yet, we continue to be a resilient organization fighting those who seek to exploit children, and together with our global partners and supporters will continue to focus on our work, and not be deterred from our important mission. We will vigorously defend our organization and reputation against all baseless allegations.
